It’s Old West: Antonio Marras man collection F/W 2017
Sardinian stylist Antonio Marras was one of the protagonists of Milan Fashion Week’s second to last day: he has had the opportunity for presenting his new man collection F/W 2016/2017.
Side by side, today’s cowboys and Native Americans, gold diggers, fur hunters and even intriguing saloon women have walked the catwalk of Bergognone street. Together they animated a rich of suggestions theme: Old West.
But don’t trick yourself. To picking up and imprisoning in unique garments the charm of a desolate town square, crumbling homes, dust, wind and horses pawing the ground you don’t have to travel up to New Mexico: Marras has found his personal West in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, in his beloved Sardinia, exactly in San Salvatore di Sinis.
Style is the one he has accustomed us to: charismatic and eclectic, refined contrast lover.
Models wear earth and hard work hues: moss, forest, military green and teal; and also taupe, brown, mud, cord.
Inevitable, lead grey and anthracite grey, warmed up in juxtaposition with red and mustard.
The mix between ‘poor’ world’s fabrics and precious embroideries guarantees creations are part of contemporary times.
Outerwear is in rough buttoned tweed or with fur inserts; coats are ‘windowpane’ checked or they are composed by layers and layers (one upon another) of fabrics, padded or in mèlange camouflage version. Jackets are biker’s in leather or python printed.
Cardigans have, as a distinguishing feature, a hood in felted jersey and sweaters are voluminous and embellished or with wide stripes.
Trousers are preferably in tartan, velvet or jacquard flower fabric. Even patchwork jeans, denim overalls and work pinnies are part of the collection, along with oiled cotton t-shirts with prints that mention Western movies and just pinstripes suits in Prince of Wales.
However the indisputable protagonist of the entire collection is the shirt: micro-checked, with intarsia, patches, embroideries and embellishments. Only one shirt seems to be made from five different ones and keeps perfectly the authentic message of its own stylist: “there is strength in numbers”.
Exclusive Modeyes’ interview to Antonio Marras will reveal to you something more about the collection: here it is the video.
